What's up with all these singing contests?

Many years ago, we only have BINTANG RTM. I could still remember Taufik Latif voice’s very clearly as he introduced the “pertandingan akhir Bintang RTM”. We also have excellence singers from Bintang RTM such as Jamal, Sudir and Siti. Now we still have Bintang RTM and we have other competitions as well. In fact, we have so many of them and we wonder if Malaysian truly can sing. Many dream to make it big as singers. Almost all of them will keep on dreaming. Some of the singing contests are Akademi Fantasia (AF), One in A Million (OIAM), Mentor, Gangstar, MyStar LG, Bintang RTM, Malaysia Idol and many more. Where are they taking our youths?
